Scientific Programme

The scientific programme is open for all aspects of anthropology and human biology, including contributions from biology, ethology and the cultural sciences. Interdisciplinary presentations are welcome.

The meeting languages are German and English.

Invited Speakers

Inspired by the meeting’s central theme, the following presenters will appear as invited speakers.


The following awards will be presented during the meeting.

Junior Scientists Award

The GfA will honour the best podium presentation and the best poster presentation by a junior scientist (students, including PhD candidates) with a prize of 150€, respectively.

Hubert Walter Award

GfA award for junior scientists, in memory of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Hubert Walter.

The award is presented every fourth year to authors of outstanding dissertations in the field of anthropology. Hubert Walter’s family has raised the prize money by 500€, to the effect that a total of 1500€ will be presented in 2017.

Social Programme

The evening program will include a congress dinner at the Badhotel in Bad Überkingen, as well as a visit to the Urgeschichtsmuseum in Blaubeuren.
With enough participants, there will be a field trip to visit the Laichinger Tiefenhöhle.
