Anthropologie Special Issue: Call for Papers


The journal Anthropologie – International Journal of Human Diversity and Evolution is preparing a special issue to commemorate the passing of Dr. Vladimír Novotný who died in November 2019. The editor in chief, Zdeňka Nerudová, and the invited guest editors Petra Urbanova and Miroslav Kralik address all researchers in anthropology with the following letter:

Dear colleagues,
Dear friends,

On behalf of Petra Urbanova and Miroslav Kralik, invited Guest Editors, it is our privilege to invite you to submit a contribution to the Special Issue of Anthropologie Journal dedicated to the memory of doc. MUDr. Vladimír Novotný, CSc – „Tracing living forms in quest of human nature“ who sadly passed away in November last year.

Vladimir Novotny’s professional life had been associated with several research institutions and major Czech universities. Notably, he had worked at Masaryk University in Brno, first at the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, later, in 1994, he was instrumental in re-establishing the Department of Anthropology at the Faculty of Science, where he had worked as a faculty member until 2004, and he concluded his academic career at the Department of Environmental Studies, Faculty of Social Studies. During his times at the Masaryk University and later on, he contributed significantly to the education of young artists at the Department of Art Theory and History, Faculty of Fine Art, Brno University of Technology.

His contribution to the science and arts cannot be underestimated. Professionally, his interests were broad and transcended the conventional limits marking scientific fields. He devoted his life to studies of morphology, human osteology, skeletal and physical anthropology, paleoanthropology, sexual dimorphism, particularly that of human pelvic bones. Also, worthy of mentioning are his contributions on facial reconstruction, systematic approach to research, or philosophy of science. His papers, lectures and speeches were always carefully crafted and argued.

The concept of the special issue aims to reflect Vladimir Novotny’s wide range of interests and his erudition in multiple scientific domains.

The topics we wish to include are.

  • Sexual dimorphism of the human skeleton
  • Sexual diagnosis according to the human pelvic bone
  • Morphometrics and geometric morphometrics
  • Paleoanthropology
  • Human fingerprints on Paleolithic ceramics
  • Forensic anthropology
  • Forensic facial reconstruction
  • Somatosensation, and histology of skin sensitive corpuscles
  • Philosophy of science and methodology
  • Hypnosis
  • Acupuncture
  • Human body morphology in art

We will be honored and in debt if you accept our invitation and decide to participate at honoring and celebrating Vladimir Novotny’s legacy.

Title and abstract submissions June 30, 2020
Full manuscript submissions March 31, 2021

Submission details
The manuscripts for the Special Issue should be submitted in English. The length of the paper and the number of artworks is not limited. Based on the character of manuscript, the text will be subjected to review process.
