Online Talk on Nazi Mass Graves in Lithuania

The second instalment of the series of online talks organised by the Society for Anthropology (Gesellschaft für Anthropologie, GfA) will take place on 9 December 2021. Prof. Dr. Rimantas Jankauskas will present his research on the following topic:

Mass graves from Nazi prisoner-of war camps in Lithuania:
what forensic archaeology and anthropology can disclose

Rimantas Jankauskas, MD, PhD, is a full professor at Department of Anatomy, Histology and Anthropology, Vilnius University, Lithuania. Since beginnings of his career, he was involved in paleopathology studies, and since 1990-ies in forensic anthropological investigations as well. He worked on identification of KGB victim graves (executed in 1944-1947), identification of historical personalities, mass grave of Napoleon’s soldiers (1812), identification of clandestine graves from uprisal in 1863-64, and trained a group of archaeologists well qualified for forensic field work.
