CANCELLED: AAPA Workshop: Data Sharing and Data Access

Planned for 17 April 2020 in Los Angeles (California, USA).

For the annual meeting of the American Association of Physical Anthropology (AAPA) from 15 to 18 April 2020 in Los Angeles, the following workshop was offered by the AAPA ad hoc committee on data access in biological anthropology:

Data Sharing and Data Access in Biological Anthropology

Course description by the organisers:

In 2017 the AAPA established an ad hoc committee on data access and data sharing in biological anthropology. With the support of a NSF grant to the association, the committee led a workshop on data sharing in 2018. The participants in the workshop set forth a set of guiding principles and best practices to increase and normalize data sharing within biological anthropology. We will present the results of the workshop and open discussion about the implementation of the guiding principles. Lunch will be provided.

The meeting in Los Angeles was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This also affects the workshop.

Workgroup ‚Data Standardisation and Modelling‘

The Society for Anthropology (Gesellschaft für Anthropologie, GfA) has a new workgroup dedicated to the standardisation and modelling of research data in biological anthropology. During its regular assembly on 26 September 2019 at the GfA meeting in Göttingen, the GfA membership approved a motion in favour of forming the group.

Interested meeting participants gathered on 27 September for an informal exchange of ideas (see image). It was decided that the first formal meeting of the workgroup ‚Data Standardisation and Modelling‘ (Arbeitsgruppe Datenstandardisierung und -modellierung, ADSM), at which the group will be formally constituted, should be held early in 2020. Information about this upcoming meeting will be distributed through the workgroup’s webpage.

GfA members can download a report on the informal meeting in Göttingen from the internal section of the GfA website. You can find information how to become a member here.
